I sent home a list of spelling words for the children to study. We will be selecting a 2nd grade spelling champion from our room.   We will have a spelling bee in the classroom using the words on the list.  The children have a little over 2 weeks to prepare for it. The spelling bee will be the week of Dec . 19 - 22.
Also coming home tonight is the book fair brochure.  The book fair will be next week from Dec. 7 - 10.

Homework tonight is to study spelling and work on their reading log.

Tonight's homework is a spelling paper.  Some of the children have to finish reading and religion also tonight.  The weekly reading log will be due on Friday/
For our advent giving this year the entire school will be collecting money to  help buy uniforms for the children at our twinning parish in Honduras. When the children bring in any amount of money they will fill in an ornament for our Christmas tree in the hall. We are also collecting gently used shoes for the same children.
Gratitude assignments are due tomorrow.

I am sending home a reading log tonight.  It will not be due until Friday, December 2.  Remember to keep your child reading over this break.  
If you would like a head start on the spelling words for next week, here they are:  long, little very, after, words, choose, letters, story, write, and good.  Remember that words from the past are also continued on each test especially words like there, their, because, different, story and write.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Since we only have a 2 day week next week, there will not be a new spelling unit.  We will work on words from the past that are still giving us trouble. 
I will not be requiring a reading log to be due on Tuesday, but could you please keep the children reading over vacation.  The daily practice is so very important to helping them become better readers.

Tomorrow is green and gold day.  We are to wear our school colors.  We will be having a pep rally in the afternoon.

First Reconciliation tomorrow morning in the church.

On Monday we will have the large traveling map of south America in the gym.  We will be using it at 1:40 - 2:20.  As a result of it being on the gym floor our class will have gym outside Monday morning, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.

I have had a couple of children wearing gym shorts without sweatpants or long pants over them.  Please be sure your child wears long pants over their gym shorts.

Homework tonight is a math paper.  We are working on shapes.  The children will have a spelling test tomorrow and of course their reading log is due on Friday also.

Homework tonight is a reading paper on sequencing.  There is an open book Religion test tomorrow.  They can always be working on their weekly reading log.

Homework tonight is a spelling paper.  We will be having a spelling quiz tomorrow and it will include proofreading.  Thursday the children will have a religion test over Chapter 4.  Please remember to remind the children about their reading log.

I think we are all ready to make our First Reconciliation.  Everyone has had a chance to role play going to confession with  me playing the part of Father.  They seem to know what they are supposed to do.
Homework tonight is to copy their new spelling words and then bring their spelling notebook back to school tomorrow and to read for their reading log.

Parents, I could really use your help with getting the reading logs in. This week there were 6 students who did not turn in their reading logs, for two of them it was the 2nd week in a row.  This will be reflected in their reading grade.  The students who did not turn in a reading log this week received a homework notice.  It is to be signed and returned with the homework on Monday.  Your help is greatly appreciated.
