Next week we will be having gym on Monday and Thursday.  This is for next week(March 5 - 9) only.  It is because of the older children taking ISTEP we needed to make some changes in our schedules.  So the children will have to wear their gym clothes on Monday and Thursday next week.
Tonight's homework is a math graph paper.  They can also work on their weekly reading log.

A date to remember:  Sunday, March  11 is the First Communion retreat.  We are to meet in the cafe at 1:00-3:00PM
Tonight some of the children have spelling, math and phonics to finish.  As always they can work on their reading log.

The children need to have their First Eucharist book tomorrow for our next lesson.
Homework tonight is a comprehension paper that they are to read to you.  Please help them with the questions.  The time you spend on this can be logged onto their weekly reading log. We are still working on Unit 20 words in Spelling this week.

Tomorrow we will be going to the Ruth Lilly Health Education Center on a field trip.  The children are to be in uniform and need to bring their lunch.  We will be eating in our classrooms when we return at 12:00 tomorrow.  I told the children to bring a small snack to eat tomorrow morning before we leave on the field trip.  We usually eat lunch at 10:55 and tomorrow we won't eat until around 12.
The children are bringing home the new spelling words for this week.  Please have them make a copy of them to keep at home and then have them bring back their spelling notebook tomorrow. They also have a timeline to do for homework.  They will need your help with it.
All of our supplies have lasted throughout the school year except for glue sticks.  WE NEED MORE GLUE STICKS.

The second grade will be doing the Holy Thursday Service for the whole school on April 5 at 2:00 in the church.  Today I sent home the readings with the children who have reading parts.  We will not begin practicing here at school for two weeks yet, but I want the children to know all the words in their speaking parts before then.  Would you please go over your child's parts with them so they know all the words? They do not have to memorize their parts.  They will be reading them.  The children who will be playing the part of one the apostles and Jesus have a note also to let you know what they will be doing.

For Lent the second grade has decided to collect change for The Humane Society.  We have a gallon milk jug that the kindergartens decorated for us and we are going to try to fill it with change by Easter.

The children are bringing home their first Eucharists books tonight.  Please do the home session with them and have the book back to school on Tuesday, Feb. 21st.

With ISTEP right around the corner for the upper grades, we have been doing some practice ISTEP things in 2nd grade to get us ready for next year.  Some will be coming home on Friday.

A huge THANK YOU to our homeroom Moms for the fantastic Valentine's party we had today.  Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Gallagher came up with some very creative activities.  Thanks to the other parents who stopped in and helped out too.
The children have a spelling paper for homework tonight.  We will be doing our First Eucharist lesson on Thursday this week because we had the Valentine's party on Tuesday afternoon and couldn't do it then.. Please make sure the book is here for Thursday this week.  Next week we will be back to our regular Tuesday Eucharist lesson.

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  There are 24 children in our class.  Have your child just sign his/her name on the 24 valentines and they will deliver them at the party.  The party is from11:30-12:40, if you would like to come and join us.
Homework tonight is the new spelling words for the week and the reading log.  Your child should be reading on their own  or to you for most of the 60 minutes.  You can still count minutes where you read to them.

The children are bringing home a letter from Sr. Joann today.  The letter contains your First Communion Mass information.  If you do not get a letter and have already filled out the forms for your 1st and 2nd choices, please let me know and I will check with Sister Joann.  If you haven't sent in your choices yet please do so as soon as possible.
Also coming home tonight is the form for a group picture.  They will be taken at the end of next week.

Some children still need to look up information on their holiday.  Other homework tonight is to study for the spelling test over Unit 18 words and the reading log is due tomorrow.

We are starting a project in Social Studies about the holidays.  Each child has one or two holidays to look up tonight on the computer.  They are also encouraged to bring in any books they might have about their holiday.  We will also be using the computers here at school.  Other homework tonight is their reading log.

Today we did our 4th lesson in our First Eucharist book.  I had 8 students that did not bring their books in to school.  This makes it very hard to have a lesson when all the children do not have a book.  Please do the home session and send the books back to school for next week's lesson. For those that did not have their book today, they will have to transfer the work they did in class today to their book.
Coming home tonight is the letter and permission slip for our next field trip.  Please ask your child for it tonight.
Homework tonight is a math paper and their reading log.  While I am talking about the reading log, please don't try to wait until Thursday night and then have your child read for 60 minutes.  The purpose of this program is to make reading a part of your child's daily life and also to improve their reading skills.
